Software for Random DnD Adventure
Generation
- TableSmith - this wonderful program
allows you to input a table, and have the program roll dice against the
table. I have collected a whole shitload of tables, and put them
all into the zip file. So, download this zip, unzip it to the
root of your C:\ drive, make a shortcut to tablesmith.exe on your
desktop, and you can start using it. It includes tables to
generate random towns, random adventures, random
treasure, random names, custom magical items, custom dragons, custom
wild surges, and about a hundred other equally awsome tables
Here is the original TableSmith
site.
- DungeonCrafter - an excellent
freeware tile-based mapping program. Highly recommended. This folder has the
program, plus a bunch of tile sets (for different types of maps, of course!).
There are over 1000 extra tiles here for DungeonCrafter, making it a must-have
tool in your mapping toolkit!
- AutoRealm Mapping
Software - this is the other mapping program I use - it takes a
while to learn to use it (so learn it in advance), but can do some
really nice stuff.
- Monster Database - this is version 4
of the Monster Database, with a slightly modified database file.
This version outputs data that can be converted straight into a
creature node for OpenRPG
- NPC Equipment Generator - this
program will generate random equipment for any character - you type in
the level & class, and it will ouput a statblock or a detailed list
of the equipment for that character.
- Spreadsheets - there
are 3 Excel spreadsheets in this archive.
Demographics - this spreadsheet will calculate an overview of an entire
country, its 10 biggest cities, and whatnot
Economic Simulator - use this spreadsheet to generate a 'snapshot' of
the current economy in an area, so you can determine what goods are
available at what prices
Room Furnishings - a little spreadsheet to generate a random room
description
- Character History - a program to
generate character background information
- NPC for Windows - a program to generate
random PCs - this particular version is the one that works with my
VBScript which will allow you to make random NPC nodes for OpenRPG in
minutes
- TerrainMage and CityMage -
both available for a small fee (something like $25 each) on the
internet. I use them to make quick maps that are easy to insert
into just about any scenario. Check out the demo versions - they
work pretty well.
- Crimson Editor - this
freeware text editor has excellent syntax highlighting for XML
files. If you open OpenRPG files with Crimson Edit, you will find
it much easier to spot problems in the XML code
Other Software
OpenOffice - a free Office
Suite that can manipulate word and excel files
GIMP this is a zip file with all the necessary
GIMP installs for the Gimp
XNView (use it to view any
graphic, and convert from one format to another)
MapMage, TerrainMage, BuildingMage (you gotta buy them)
DnD PC Generator
Web Site Downloader - I use this
program to mirror entire web sites to my hard drive - makes it easy to
collect files for future reference
